2022/2023 Classroom Grants at a Glance:
- PCEF’s Board increased Classroom Grant funding to $460,000 in 2022!
- 45 Grants were awarded.
- Without PCEF donor support, programs like Debate, Robotics, Latinos in Action, the Elementary PACE program, and more, would not be robust, award-winning programs - or even exist at all.
HUGE NEWS from PCEF: Park City Education Foundation’s Board of Trustees has increased the amount of funding available for Classroom Grants: $460,000 was made available to award to educators (an increase from $350,000)!
It’s all thanks to PCEF donors this funding is available and ready to be dispatched directly into Park City’s classrooms. The money supports more than 100 programs and positively impacts every single student in our school district.
Classroom Grants, PCEF’s longest-running program (formerly Teacher Grants), launched PCEF into existence in 1986, with a single STEM-focused grant for $2,000. Funding for the program; which brings teachers’ innovative ideas, concepts, or practices to life; has increased ever since.
In the fall of 2022, educators will begin the school year with nearly $460,000 in Classroom Grant project funding!
“This year, there was a 161% increase in Classroom Grant applications,” said Kara Cody, Director of Programs for PCEF. “That’s the biggest jump we’ve ever seen. There were so many great ideas coming in and the need was so great that the Board knew it had to approve more funding. Thanks to that, PCEF was able to fund more grants than ever before. It’s just an astounding increase and will positively impact so many Park City students.”
These grants are awarded in a participatory process: the Classroom Grants Committee was comprised of 12 people this year, including five educators and three students. The process was adjusted in 2021/22 to become more participatory.
This demonstration of PCEF’s commitment to educator and student voice also allows people with the most expertise and experience on an issue to influence investments. The goal, as ever, is even more impactful, mindful giving.
Committee co-chairs Jodey Fey and Jose Mellin noted there are always commonalities that surface, and this year, the committee took note of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) and Project-Based/Experiential Learning themes.
PCEF’s Classroom Grant committee looks for:
- Innovative programs to address academic gaps or support The Whole Child tenets.
- Programs PCEF has previously funded & are successful in meeting needs outlined by educators
- Previously piloted programs to be expanded to additional classrooms or schools.
- Programs to address DEI barriers and ensure broad participation and success.
For the 2022/2023 school year, 45 Classroom Grants were awarded, with a total value of $458,455 - the highest amount in the history of PCEF.
