In 1996, Jim Doilney and PCEF created the Excellent Educator Awards to honor the educators in the Park City School District. Jim was inspired by his mother who was a teacher. Since 2019 he has been joined by the Louis Family to continue this endeavor, as Hank Louis was a former educator. Every year, educators in each school determine PCEF’s Excellent Educators while PCHS seniors honor the most influential educator of their school career with the Sarah & Stephen Doilney Award.
When EVA launched in 2012, it filled a gap. Across Utah, art funding had been cut in the 1980s. PCEF saw the opportunity to put art back in schools, sustained growing the program, and now it's evolving to something more. Beginning next school year, the district will fund four full-time, licensed elementary art teachers. Lessons across all the elementary schools will be aligned so that every student in grades K-5 will have access to high-quality, equitable art education.
To me, PCEF is supporting not only our school district but our whole community, by providing funding and amazing education opportunities that would not be possible otherwise. It takes a community to raise a child, and the Foundation is a critical component.
