BRIGHT FUTURES STORIES

Welcome Lindsay Carreto to PCEF's Bright Futures Team

It is with great pleasure that the Park City Education Foundation welcomes Lindsay Carreto to their staff as the Bright Futures High School Program Coordinator. Lindsay is a 2020 PCHS graduate, a 2020 PCHS Latinos In Action (LIA) President, a 2023 Utah State University graduate, and a proud alumni of the PCEF Bright Futures program.  She was among many qualified applicants and chosen for her experience, leadership and devotion to helping first generation students get through college.

In high school, Lindsay challenged herself academically and took AP classes each year, including Biology, French Language and Culture, Geography, and English Language & Composition. These AP and concurrent enrollment courses allowed her to graduate from college in just three years, with a degree in Psychology and earning Dean’s list every semester.  Lindsay credits the PCHS Dream Big program with providing the academic support she needed to succeed in these honors level classes.

Lindsay was also a Bright Futures crew leader and co-President of Latinos In Action during her high school years.  As LIA co-President, she was honored by delivering the graduation speech on behalf of her Latinx classmates.

Upon high school graduation, Lindsay was chosen to be a Student Ambassador for Utah State University (USU)  where she recruited high school students and conducted campus tours for the university. In exchange she earned tuition and fees and collaborated with students from around the country and the globe. Moreover, as a REACH Peer Program mentor, she taught fellow students stress management skills including breathing techniques, visualization and positive thinking. Finally, she played a significant role in bringing to the USU campus events and speakers who promoted mental health.

As High School Program Coordinator, Lindsay will be responsible for Bright Futures recruitment, parent education efforts, and 1-1 student guidance and support.  She will also be a key liaison to the PCHS Dream Big program, delivering college readiness curriculum and college application support within the Dream Big classroom.  Lindsay knows first hand how these complementary programs can improve outcomes for first generation students and is thrilled to now be a key player in increasing the level of partnership and collaboration between the two.

Lindsay hopes to use the recruitment skills she learned to encourage future students to join the Bright Futures program. “I want to continue using the resources that were helpful in my journey but I am also excited to talk about new ideas that could be added to the program. In addition, I hope to introduce some of the mental health skills I learned to all of the Bright Futures students. Overall, I am excited about this role and working with the students and the staff of the program!”

The program is so proud to be able to hire a Bright Futures alumna.  Lindsay leads by example-- living a healthy lifestyle, excelling in academics, and taking advantage of a diversity of social and cultural opportunities. She does so with genuine interest and an open-mind. We look forward to her becoming a role model to help the PCHS high school cohorts get to college.
