Built to Belong: Ecker Hill Opens Doors to What’s Next

PARK CITY, Utah — March 27, 2025 — Students, educators, and members of the Park City community gathered Thursday afternoon to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of the newly expanded Ecker Hill Middle School — a key step in the district’s grade realignment and long-range master facility plan.

Thanks to the 2021 General Obligation Bond passed by voters, the school now features two brand-new, state-of-the-art wings with flexible classrooms designed to inspire creativity and exploration. These spaces are central to the district’s realignment, which includes the closure of Treasure Mountain Junior High School. Starting in the 2025–26 school year, Ecker Hill Middle School will house both 7th and 8th grades, while 9th grade will move to Park City High School.

This school year also marks the final chapter for the Ecker Hill Timberwolves mascot. As part of the realignment and to reflect a unified district identity, Ecker Hill Middle School will transition to become the Ecker Hill Middle School Miners beginning next year.

“These new wings are more than just brick and glass and mortar; they represent opportunity, growth, and a brighter future for our students and staff,” said Board of Education President Meredith Reed. “They are the result of countless hours of planning, dedication, and hard work from so many people, from our community who approved the bond, to our educators, families, and partners who brought this vision to life.”

Upgrades at Ecker Hill Middle School include:

  • Modern Classroom Wings: Two new wings with flexible learning spaces designed to support innovative instruction and the district’s grade realignment.
  • Collaborative Forum: A dynamic, multi-use space for group work, discussion, and critical thinking.
  • Expanded Cafeteria & Kitchen: A welcoming environment where students can enjoy nutritious meals and connect with peers.
  • Updated Gymnasium: A more extensive, modern facility to support physical education, wellness, and indoor activities during the winter months.

Superintendent Lyndsay Huntsman thanked MOCA (owner’s agent), MHTN Architecture, and Hogan Construction for their role in delivering the project. She also recognized the flexibility and dedication of Ecker Hill’s educators and staff, who adapted throughout the construction process.

“There was a lot of patience, classrooms on carts, and flexibility needed in those first few days of school,” Huntsman said.

Huntsman also thanked the Park City Education Foundation for their ongoing support and dedication to enhancing learning opportunities for students, noting their important role in connecting classroom learning to the world beyond.

“And of course, to our Park City community, your belief in the power of education and your investment in our students' future have made this moment possible,” Huntsman said. “Thank you for helping us build a stronger foundation for learning and growth.”

Construction continues across the district as part of the voter-approved bond projects. The expansion at Park City High School is scheduled to be completed in summer 2025. New construction at Trailside Elementary and Parley’s Park Elementary — , including preschool and after-school program space —, is anticipated to open in fall 2025.

“Today marks not just the completion of new construction, but a step forward in providing our students with state-of-the-art spaces where they can learn, grow, and thrive. Together, we’re creating a future where every student feels supported, challenged, and inspired.”
